Selection Criteria for OCP Education and Training Evaluators

The Professional Board for Occupational Therapy, Medical Orthotics and Prosthetics and Arts Therapy (OCP) invites suitably qualified evaluators to assist with the evaluation of educational and training institutions. This follows a Board decision that a broader ‘pool’ of evaluators be developed for the evaluation of education and training programmes.

Criteria applied for the nomination of evaluators will include the following:

Criteria in terms of knowledge and experience
  • A broad range of clinical experience, including exposure to a range of levels of care, the public and the private sectors, as well as various fields of practice.
  • A working knowledge of education and training, with particular reference to the policies that govern higher education in SA.
  • A working knowledge of quality assurance processes and relevant health and safety legislation.
  • Experience as examiner of final year students.
  • Evidence of staying up to date with developments in the profession (e.g. conference attendance, workshops, short courses).
  • Experience as external examiner.
The following criteria will be strictly adhered to:
  • Registration with the HPCSA.
  • Experience of student training at any level.
  • Be in good standing with the HPCSA.
Criteria for consideration regarding the pool of evaluators

The evaluators in the pool must jointly represent a broad range of geographical areas throughout South Africa, a range of educational institutions, both the private and public sector, and be demographically representative.

Criteria for consideration regarding evaluation event

The combination of evaluators appointed for each evaluation collectively –

  • Will have relevant range of experience, to account for the entire spectrum of practise,
  • Will have demographic and geographic representation,
  • The convenor will have conducted at least one prior evaluation, and
  • Evaluators have not assessed a specific training institution for a consecutive evaluation.
Nominations sought from
  • Higher education institutions
  • Professional organisations
  • National Forum (per profession)
  • Professional Board
Nomination process

Nominations for evaluators will be invited at the inauguration of a new Board. Additional nominations might be called if necessary.

Nominations should be accompanied by a resume reflecting:

  • How the criteria have been met.
  • All affiliations with other Higher Education Institutions e.g. previous and current employment; external examiner status; current and previous registration for study.
  • Any potential conflict of interest relating to participation in the accreditation process of any Institution.
The Education Committee of the Professional Board

The Committee will:

  • Consider all nominations submitted
  • Review all supporting documentation and criteria;
  • Select and appoint individuals as evaluators;
  • Inform individuals of their selection/appointment and
  • Inform individuals of their roles and responsibilities as an evaluator through the board secretariat.
