About this time last year, I wrote my last festive season message to staff and the hospital community at my previous place of employment, Helen Joseph Hospital. It was an emotional moment to bid farewell to a community that I had come to love and respect. As I wrote that message I was at the same time excited about a new venture that was awaiting me at the HPCSA. I was looking forward to forging new relationships and adding my lot to help move my new employer to greater heights.
Today I write my first festive season message to wish all healthcare practitioners a well-deserved break after a hectic year.
This time of the year gives one an opportunity to take stock of the year that went by and assess what impact each made in our respective responsibilities both in our roles as healthcare practitioners and as individuals in our respective social lives. It is always a good habit to do self-introspection as this helps one to truly come to terms with our worth. In doing so one however needs to avoid being too harsh on oneself. If the self-introspection reveals a need to change in certain areas to add more value in the roles we play in our lives, one needs to react appropriately, responsibly and positively. I trust that for the majority of us we wish to be better people in the new year.
The coming days and weeks give us an opportunity to spend valuable time with our families and loved ones. May we use this time to rest, rejuvenate and recharge as we enjoy blissful moments traveling to our holiday destinations or meeting our families at distant places or staying put as others have to continue serving the public who require our services at different healthcare facilities.
On behalf of HPCSA I wish you all a joyous festive season, good health and a more productive year individually and corporately in your families and at the workplace.
God bless you all!
