Health Minister Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi released the White Paper on the National Health Insurance (NHI) as approved by Cabinet for public comment ahead of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day, 11 December 2015.
NHI White Paper is a policy document that seeks to transform the South African health care system with emphasis on the promotion of health and the prevention of diseases.
National Health Insurance is a health system that seeks to provide access to quality and affordable health care services for all South Africans based on their health needs irrespective of their socio-economic status.

The Health Minister indicated that while Cabinets’ adoption of the white paper on the National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme is a positive development, government still has a long way to go to implement the system.
