New Interim HPCSA Registrar

Council would like to inform you that the term of office of the Registrar, Dr Magome Masike, has come to an end in accordance with the contractual provisions governing the position.

Council wishes to take this opportunity to thank Dr Masike for his service and contributions to the organisation during his term of office. His efforts in supporting the work of Council and advancing the mandate of the organisation are appreciated, and we wish Dr Masike well in his future endeavours.

In order to ensure continuity and stability within the organisation, the Minister of Health has appointed Dr Karmani Chetty as the Interim Registrar. Dr Chetty brings significant expertise in health policy, regulation, and executive management. She holds a medical degree and specialisation in public health. She has served in several high-profile roles within the health sector, most recently as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) from January 2020 to March 2024. The Interim Registrar will serve in this capacity until the position of Registrar has been filled in accordance with the relevant processes.

The Executive Management will provide full support to Dr Chetty to ensure a seamless transition and the continued effective functioning of Council. This includes maintaining operational stability, supporting the implementation of strategic priorities, and ensuring that key programmes and regulatory functions continue without interruption during this period.

Council remains committed to ensuring continued effective governance and fulfilment of the organisation’s statutory mandate.
