Dental assistants subject to new regulations

The Minister of Health Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, has published the amendment regulations relating to the qualifications for the registration of dental assistants for comment in the Government Gazette on 22 July 2016. This was to allow for public engagement for a period of one month in a form of public comments.

The National Department of Health (NDoH) will refer comments from stakeholders, if any, to the Board for consideration. The Board will consider the comments from the stakeholders and thereafter submit the regulations to the HPCSA for approval.

Council will then submit the regulations to the NDoH for promulgation by the Minister. The Board will only be in a position to implement registration of dental assistants based on experience once the Minister of Health, as the custodian of these regulations, has signed them into law.
