With reference to the e-Bulletin sent to practitioners on 26 May 2026 please note the following:
- The Professional Board for Optometry and Dispensing Opticians (PBODO) has resolved to ring-fence five (5) Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for optometrists who are registered with an additional category in Ocular Therapeutics.
- From the current thirty (30) total CEUs, of which 5 are for ethics and twenty-five (25) are clinical CEUs, optometrists with therapeutic privileges will be required to accumulate 5 CEUs specific to Ocular Therapeutics.
- What this means is that optometrists with therapeutic privileges will be required to accumulate – 5 CEUs for ethics, 5 CEUs for therapeutics, and 20 clinical CEUs over a period of 12 months.
- Practitioners are hereby informed that the implementation date for the ring-fencing of 5 CEUs for therapeutics is 01 April 2027. Approved CPD accreditors have been informed to start planning for the offering of therapeutic related CPD activities.
