Community health and COVID-19

Life is not the same anymore. Community health workers find themselves in the frontline of the fight against COVID-19, making a difference on the ground and helping the most vulnerable in society. Through the performance of their duties community health workers are exposed to COVID-19 on a daily basis and it is starting to take its toll with many either becoming infected of living in constant fear of being infected.

The impact of community health workers being pulled from the field due to self-isolation or hospitalisation and the emotional toll of those still performing their daily duties at this crucial period is a source of great concern. The HPCSA calls for a concerted strategy to address the challenges faced by health workers and the communities they serve.
